According the FBI 33,000 PCs out of Germany make requests to the BOTnet per day that got shutdown in November 2011 under the operation called 'Ghost Click'. The last remote PCs will be no longer availabe after 08. Mar 2012, because the FBI made the decision to shutdown the last remote PCs. (everybody needs to save money these days). The effect on your PC at work, at home or mobile is always the same, you will no longer get connected to the Internet.
